Music and Movie Moment: Mulholland Drive -- Rebekah del Rio, "Llorando"

Rebekah del Rio – Llorando (“Crying” cover, Mulholland Drive)

Mulholland Drive (David Lynch, 2001). This track is a haunting, a capella, Spanish language cover by Rebekah del Rio of the Roy Orbison song “Crying” (Orbison, Melson 1961). Some screencaps are from here, some are from here, and some are from TK on the lj. Some I took myself from the sneaksters who have managed to put a bit of this up on the youtube. Thanks to all sources.

Yo estaba bien

por un tiempo

volviendo a sonreír

I was all right

for a while

I could smile for awhile

Luego anoche te vi;

tu mano me tocó

y el saludo de tu voz

But I saw you last night,

you held my hand so tight

as you stopped to say hello

Y hablé muy bien

y tú sin saber

que he estado

Llorando por tu amor,

llorando por tu amor

Oh, you wished me well

You couldn’t tell

that I’ve been

Crying over you,

crying over you

Luego de tu adiós

sentí todo mi dolor

Sola y

llorando, llorando, llorando.

You said, “So long,”

left me standing all alone

Alone and

crying, crying, crying.

No es fácil de entender

que al verte otra vez

yo esté llorando.

It’s hard to understand

but the touch of your hand

Can start me crying.

Yo que pensé

que te olvidé

pero es verdad,

es la verdad

que te quiero aun más

mucho más que ayer

Dime tú que puedo hacer.

I thought that I

was over you,

but it’s true,

oh, so true

I love you even more

than I did before.

But darling, what can I do?

¿No me quieres ya?

Y siempre estaré

Llorando por tu amor

llorando por tu amor

For you don’t love me,

and I’ll always be

Crying over you

crying over you

Tu amor se llevó

todo mi corazón

Y quedo llorando, llorando, llorando

Llorando por tu amor

Yes, now you’re gone,

and from this moment on

I’ll be crying, crying, crying,

Crying over you

Purchase Mulholland Drive, a StudioCanal film, from amazon online or in person at some big, dreadful electronics discount store where they make their employees dress all alike and discourage self-expression while simultaneously crushing their professional ambitions and private dreams, or even someplace mind-numbingly similar but with a wider range of products to assuage your human misery at the altar of merciless soul-raping capitalism, Walmart or Target; whatever, I don’t care. I am just encouraging you to do this consumer bullshit so I don’t get sued. If it were up to me, David Lynch movies would be showing at most theaters everywhere always, so it’s tough for me to recommend virtually profitless small screen shenanigans. And by tough I mean I am going to go chew light bulbs now.

This movie will come up again, these are a really small handful of caps compared to the rest. I’ve just been blue and listening to this song a lot lately.

The Sandlot is a 1993 American comedy-drama sports film about young baseball players. The film was directed by David Mickey Evans and was released with the title The Sandlot Kids in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Photo at weekend (2010, Week 4)

Today I’d like to blog the photograph by Andreea Retinschi, a freelance photographer based in Bucharest, Romania. On her site, she claims that she believes that a photograph should hold a character, and not just a model.

The following image may be seen in Andreea Retinschi’s gallery (WildRainOfIceAndFire) on deviantART. Photographer wrote in comments that she was thinking about “Birth of Venus” by Botticelli when taking this photograph. She also mentioned that it was an abandoned factory with no ceilings and that it was probably around 12°C outside (~53°F).

Nudes for Kari

During a lengthy conversation with Kari, she revealed that she mostly wears flats. After moving to the sunshine state, all the sand and beach-y ground makes it hard to wear heels day in and day out.

Now, I know that I’ve expressed a personal abhorrence to flats before (in spite of this, I still wear them from time to time) but I can step out of my own heel-prejudice to assist a dear friend.

These Christian Siriano shoes from Payless are way cute. (sidebar: Thanks for not disappointing me with your collection for a second time, Christian.  At $29.99, they aren’t too expensive, either!

But if that’s still too expensive, try these bronze  flats from Forever 21.  At $9.50, these shiny flats will add fabulousness to any outfit, day or night.

Another option from Forever 21 are these leopard-print flats. They aren’t nude colored, but I’ve had a pair of leopard-print flats for four years and I still love them as much as the day I bought them.  They are $22.50, which compared to the $115 Jeffrey Campbell flats I’ve been craving for more than a year seems pretty reasonable!

Happy shopping, Kari!

First Nude

So today I did my first nude photo shoot with an awesome male model I found on Model Mayhem. I was a bit nervous at first, but we hit it off nicely and had a great shoot. He was professional, prepared and very comfortable with himself, which set me at ease. ( geez, you’d think I was the one posing) Once I’ve gone through them all, I will post a couple of G- rated bodyscapes on here. I learned alot today about composition and a bit about light..( much more to learn) but most importantly..I had fun :D

Mmmm, Tonic.

Kopana Terry of WUKY’s Tonic sat down with Nude Selection Committee Member Boris Zakic and LAL Board Member Kurt Gohde recently to discuss QX.net Nude 2010… particularly the video pieces selected for the exhibit and the substantial role the absence of figure actually plays in this collection of figurative art.

Oh yeah, and they dish on their favorite pieces from this year’s exhibit… good question Kopana!

Anatomy of Hell is an Unpleasant and Ugly Movie

Anatomy of Hell (2004)

Anatomy of Hell (2004)

It is not often that I see a film and feel uncomfortable and disgusted. Especially when I have some understanding of the ground I’m going to cover before engaging in a Catherine Breillat film-watching experience. I actually enjoyed her film Fat Girl tremendously, and I even liked and recommend the more obviously gratuitous movie Romance. If Breillat is a voice for womenkind, then those graphic films had a more concrete bone to pick with mankind. Anatomy of Hell is a film that tries even harder to successfully offer the idea that pornography, which in some cases this film turns out to be, can in fact be made effectively by a good director, albeit the means here as opposed to pornography are intended to serve a far more worthy end. Breillat is a filmmaker with merit but this particular film’s message, if it exists at all, is so abstract that it gets completely lost and suddenly the accusations that Breillat is intentionally trying to offend us creep up from the dark again to spoil her valiant crusade against the crimes of man. It is a shame because I really cherish the idea that a filmmaker of Breillat’s boldness can and does exist.

Rocco Siffredi

Italian pornstar Rocco Siffredi in a still from the movie.

Anatomy of Hell, or Anatomie de l’enfer, is actually adapted from Breillat’s novel Pornocratie. It follows an unnamed and troubled woman (Amira Casar) who meets an unnamed homosexual man (Rocco Siffredi) under some pretty dire circumstances. After their initial encounter she makes a strange request that the man watch over her for four days. During this time the conversations get very obscure, probably a bit pretentious, and of course the dialogue seems to me completely unlikely to come from anyone’s mouth. I will admit my French is not good enough to follow these scenes without subtitles so perhaps the conversations went over my head due to poor translation, but I doubt it.

Amira Casar

Amira Casar

I guess the point of the film was not completely over my head. Breillat clearly wants us to look into the rawness of a woman no matter how ugly and unpleasant it has the potential to be. However, in my view, she goes far beyond that for the sake of shock and I’m not so sure I’m willing to forgive that, so the film really fails for me. There are things that happen in this film that are absolutely disgusting in any right-minded person’s eyes. And that is coming from someone who gave Salò and Sweet Movie decent reviews.

My rating is 2 out of 5 stars.

Music Moment: Eisley, "Sea King"

Eisley – Sea King

via igor+andré

At the bottom of the ocean lives a Sea King

He was my king

He was so proud, diamonds in his crown

He was so proud, always so proud

The male of the species is the Nokk. He lives in lakes, ponds, rivers, and waterfalls. The Nokk drags people down if they play too close to the edge of the water or attempt to pick water lilies. He is most dangerous after sunset. To see or hear the Nokk means someone will drown. He is often heard shrieking during shipwrecks.

(A Field Guide to Demons, Fairies, Fallen Angels, and Other Subversive Spirits. Mack, Carol and Dinah. 1999. New York: Macmillan. p. 33.)

I’m going away,

I can’t stay

and I pray he finds out someday…

Sea King,

Sea king,

can’t you see that you’re so silly?

Sea King,

I know things,

and without love you won’t get far.

The Nokk has been seen as a horse or half a horse, as half a ship, or a gleaming silver coin or ring. The Nokk plays music on a golden harp to lure his victim closer if his precious-object disguise doesn’t work. (Ibid.)

Esao Andrews, “Sweet Wilderness.”

In aquatic towns below us,

reigns a Sea King,

he was my king.

Gold and glitter was bubbling all around him,

all around him, pearls in his hands.

I’m going away,

I can’t stay

and I pray he finds out someday…

Sea King,

Sea king,

can’t you see that you’re so silly?

Sea King,

I know things,

and without love you won’t get far.

It was all he ever knew

It was all he ever knew

It was all he ever knew

and that’s sad.

“Oahu 2″ by Allen Birbach, Spider Awards nominee.

Sadko entered and pursued his fleeting bride through the endless torturous crypts of four sea-oceans; at least found her in the palace of the Sea-King.

“In sooth, Sadko, thou art a mster-player on the gusly,” smiled the monarch, “prithee, play for me upon thy harp.”

Sadko perceived he could do no other than heed the behest of the Sea-King, wherefore, setting his harp in tune, he plucked the strings.

“Good Bye,” by Esao Andrews

The heart of the Sea-King’s daughter beat in tune to Sadko’s playing, so that with sweet blandishment he won her back, whereafter they dwelt in love and felicity in the coral-chambered castle beneath the sea.
